Worldwide Prehnite From The Charlie Key Collection
These are from the personal collection of Charlie Key, the legendary dealer of Tsumeb minerals and African minerals through the late 1900s. Charlie also specialized in Canadian minerals, Rare species, and thumbnails. He loved them all! But, his favorite species, the one species he personally collected for fun and interest for over 50 years, as Prehnite. He regarded it as a challenge, and had so much fun building this collection. I obtained the larger Kalahari and African components of the Key collection in 2008 with Marshall Sussman, but Charlie held back this suite, his favorite species suite, until selling it to us around 2015. We have kept it intact and in storage all these years, waiting to do it justice. This update consists of the core pieces of this unique, one-species collection assembled over the lifetime travels of Charlie Key (he passed away in 2021). All specimens here are treasures, but you can see that Charlie particularly loved New Jersey (where he grew up collecting in the traprock quarries himself in the 1950s and 1960s), Asbestos in Quebec (which he also self-collected at when allowed); and from Africa, where his home and his heart was. The Namibian specimens in particular, it is worth noting, are really from one of the most significant African mineral collections ever built, it is just that he held back selling them when he sold the rest of his African/Namibian suites many years before.
