This is an aesthetic Prehnite from New Jersey featuring several well developed spheres of vivid mint green Prehnite with Calcite on a basalt matrix, from the collection of one of the most important collectors of New Jersey material of all time. The various trap rock quarries in New Jersey are well known for their good Prehnite specimens and this small cabinet piece is exceptional. This is a top quality example of this material featuring eight, slightly translucent, bright mint green Prehnite spheres measuring a relatively uniform 1.2 to 1.4 cm across associated with translucent, whitish 1.1 to 1.7 cm rhombic Calcite crystals around the periphery. The colorful, satin lustered Prehnite spheres are grouped along the length of the piece elegantly. The Prehnite and Calcite have great contrast and the gray-brown basalt matrix provides good color variation too. An exquisite and damage-free Prehnite piece from a trap rock quarry in New Jersey that has been mined for 100 years! Charlie Key had a special place for NJ prehnites in his heart and collection, and grew up collecting them in the 1950s and 1960s.
