- Rockport, Knox Co., Maine, USA
- Small Cabinet, 7.5 x 5.1 x 2.7 cm
- Ex. Charlie Key
We don't think of Maine when it comes to Prehnite, however, this is an attractive small cabinet specimen from the town of Rockport out of Charlie Key's Prehnite collection. It is certainly an obscure locality as Mindat doesn't have any photos of Prehnite from this locality. It's a pretty piece consisting of several dozen, 5 mm, golden-yellow Prehnite crystals making up a tightly clustered druse on what appears to be a white Natrolite matrix. The crystals are well formed and all of them are oriented and growing vertically so that the terminations glisten relative to any incident light. A cute Prehnite specimen from an unusual locality, from an old collection (although i have seen the old label style, I cannot place it but we do know these came out generally prior to the 1970s).
