Agardite is a rare hydrated REE-Cu-arsenate of the mixite group of minerals, of which several closely related varieties are found in the mines of ancient Laurium. The sculptural, vuggy limonite crust is richly adorned with colorful tufts of pretty, green-blue Agardite. Their delicate form, almost like cotton candy, is beautiful and the contrast in color with the iron oxide matrix is enchanting. Aesthetic and excellent combination material from recent finds at this well-known Lavrion mine. Found in 2017, it was listed as Agardite-(Nd) in our label from the previous owner (who was involved in collecting these in the mines and in analysing specimens with local universities). Though MINDAT does not have this variety listed for the Christiana Mine, the type locality for the (Nd) variety is the nearby Hilarion Mine. Both Lanthanum and Cerium-rich Agardite exists here, and we are told that the Neodymium variety (slightly more metallic green in color as well) has a slightly more gracile and hair-like look to it as you see here. This is a rich specimen and a colorful small miniature.
