This is a large, fine crystal of Fluorapatite accented by Quartz from the world famous Panasqueira tungsten-tin deposit which has arguably produced the finest specimens of this species. This gorgeous green Fluorapatite measures 3.7 cm maximum dimension and although zoning is apparent without backlighting, backlighting does reveal its marvelous internal zonation consisting of a deep green core with successive 2 to 3 mm thick successive zones, some exhibiting dark green areas, out to the crystal's glassy exterior. Preferential highlights of off-white grace barely perceptible pyramidal faces to great effect. The green crystal is glassy, translucent and is complemented by a cluster of several glassy, clear Quartz crystals 2.5 cm in length. There is minor contacting at the base of the Fluorapatite and the opposing end of the Quartz crystals on the back. This is an attractive, well-composed and well-balanced piece. The Fluorapatite fluoresces orange in UV light. Ex. Richard Mushlitz collection with label. A really interesting and robust, dramatic specimen presenting the top face of the crystal as the forward face of the specimen, for an unusual appearance compared to most.
