This gem aquamarine crystal, from the Peter Bancroft collection and dating to the 1970s or before, is like blue glass, with a riveting and sparkling color and brilliance to it that is hard to convey. It is so glassy and gemmy, transparent, that it is hard to photograph. It is a pure pastel blue color, and yet not pale at all, of a shade that used to be called seafoam blue when they were coming out of Brazil in the early to mid 1900s. We only know that it predates the 1970s, by which time it had been purchased from Peter and placed into the beryl collection on display as both an asset and an educational resource, at the Pala Intl store in Fallbrook, CA. It has been owned by Bill Larson ever since, part of his well known and large collection of beryls. Not only is this a classic Brazilian style of color, but the shape is very unusual, with a naturally rounded termination that stands out from others. Pristine, without damage or repair, this is 345 grams.
