Uchucchacua has produced some world-class Rhodochrosite specimens over the years and this exceptional one from the Jack Halpern collection is a fantastic example. A cluster of stunning, cherry-red, superbly-displayed, completely-terminated Rhodochrosite crystals to ONE INCH are perched on contrasting thin veneer of black-brown Goethite on an altered limestone matrix. The rich red Rhodos are gem, super lustrous scalenohedrons, some of which are doubly terminated! You couldn't ask any more from this style of Rhodochrosite from Peru! This is an intensely colorful, eminently displayable specimen that was found in the early 1990s at the Uchucchacua Mine. Like many of Jack's most colorful specimens from the 1990s, he got this from dealer Ken Roberts, who specialized in both aesthetics and color in mineral specimens. Ken personally went to Peru multiple times in that era and brought back specimens to the Bay Area, so Jack got first pick of many finds at the time. These crystals literally sparkle like cherry colored jewels and it is hard to overstate the quality, which may not come through in video as well as in person.
