This is a starkly geometric cluster of three elegant, gemmy, perfectly terminated crystals, with the largest measuring 3 cm in length. It is a large thumbnail sized specimen with extreme impact. It has a classic cherry red color, superb gemminess, and a much more dramatic splayed space-filling presence than most such specimens, thumbnails or not. This is a survivor from the era of 1979-1982 when such specimens shocked the mineral world. However, they now only recycle out of the oldest, finest collections, and are not available. This is a particularly large thumbnail as well. It is notable for the pristine condition, the gemminess, the shape as stated above, and the interesting accent of minute sparkling manganite crystals perched upon the longer rhodochrosite. As a bonus, it is good from BOTH sides, so you have to agonize about how to display it! From the personal collection of Bill Larson, who has always loved thumbnails and toenails and hoarded them, even back in the day when they were not as in fashion as they are today.
