Rhodochrosite from China was found in several large finds over the last 20 years at Wutong (sometimes spelled Wudong), in Guangxi. Each find, each year, seems to have produced slightly different crystal habits — discs, rhombohedral, tight clusters or spaced crystals. However, this one is just plain weird, and we have not seen others like it. The structure is very elongated and the crystals have a subtle, rich surface detail to them that makes them look slightly etched. It is difficult to date it. Just a really pretty, surreal style. The piece is a nice strawberry red, and is complete. It almost looks like a bridge of rhodo when standing horizontally! It comes from the well known specialty collection of rhodochrosite built by Dr William Logan, over some 30 years or so, which we purchased in 2018.
