This nicely composed aesthetic display miniature features a thick, tabular, lively, red-pink Ruby crystal on a matrix of rounded Scapolite sprinkled with some orangey iron staining. The handsome, translucent to somewhat gemmy, distinctly hexagonal Ruby crystal measures 2.2 x 2.0 x 1.4 cm and exhibits horizontally spaced growth striations around the periphery of the crystal on its prism faces. It also has a nice pinacoid termination with with numerous, low profile, triangular growth features stacked in parallel resulting in a slightly stepped termination. There are a few small recesses into the crystal along the sides, one showing a small, 1 mm Pyrite crystal. The engaging, pink-red Ruby crystal is perched adroitly on a mottled, tan to off-white, rounded and sculptural piece of sugary textured Scapolite matrix for great contrast and aesthetics. Under long wave UV the Ruby glows vibrant red and pink while the Scapolite fluoresces yellow for great contrast! In person, a combination of dimensionality and subtle tone and saturation variations makes this very special and interesting.
