This is a very large, complexly-formed Ruby crystal from Mogok, Burma that is glassy and sculpturally artistic. It is rare to see etched or partially resorbed Ruby crystals and this one shows etching preferential to zones that are perpendicular to its length (c-axis) that show as planar embayments into the crystal. The color of the piece is variegated from translucent pale pink to transparent to translucent pink-red with the lighter areas more coincident with the embayed or etched areas. Looking down the long dimension (c-axis) and overall hexagonal shape is evident and there is actually what could be interpreted as several Ruby crystals in parallel arrangement along with a few hollow channels, with one that completely transects a portion of the crystal leaving a hole with a hexagonal outline! A very attractive and unique Ruby crystal! 209 grams
