What a beautiful and complete, tabular, hexagonal, purple-red Ruby crystal from an unusual locality in Norway! This single crystal is incredibly well formed and exhibits a near-perfect hexagonal outline with sharp faces and edges. The large pinacoid faces show beautiful, subtle, but distinct geometric growth patterns that are triangular in shape. Small, whitish to grayish patches of Calcite are present locally that are relics of the host rock and also provide a nice aesthetic contrast to the piece. The crystal is translucent and with backlighting it glows more of a red-purple! It is also neon red fluorescent in ultraviolet light. It is excellent for this obscure locality and very good for the species. It has a mass of 22.24 grams. From the noted collection of corundum expert Will Heierman , who obtained it from Bill Larson's personal collection according to his label. An important locality piece
