A Peruvian rhodochrosite is not what first comes to mind when you talk about superb thumbnail crystals, gemmy, for an exhibition. However, this is an exception and a startling example for what it is. Perched atop a sliver of matrix is a superb, single crystal of scalenohedral rhodochrosite, measuring 2.2 cm in length. The crystal is glassy and gemmy and exhibits a bright cherry red color. A strong candidate for any thumbnail competition. Simply beautiful! From an old collection, traded from the Black Hills Institute in 1990.
