Beryl var. Morganite in Albite and Quartz
Cabinet, 9.5 x 8.7 x 6.6 cm
White Queen Mine, Hiriart Mountain, Pala District, San Diego Co., California, USA

Morganites from San Diego County are California and USA classics, and were mined by Norm Dawson and his family from the late 1950s to early 1970s. This is a fine, sharp (2.6 cm across) example of a gemmy Morganite crystal nicely set on a matrix of Albite and Quartz, with Montmorillonite. The termination is silky while the prism faces are glassy and clear. A good example of a classic, quality, and uncommon White Queen Morganite. Kay traded this to Norm, who would have collected it from his own mine, in 1962 for a German stephanite and other minerals from her collection.
