San Diego County Morganites are the legendary prizes of any American collection of gem pegmatite mineral suite. This is an exceptional piece from the Bill Larson collection featuring a rich, pastel pink, somewhat equant Morganite partially jacketed by bluish white Albite var. Cleavelandite. Aesthetically placed on and in the Cleavelandite, the contrasting gem Morganite measures one and a half inches across and one and a quarter inches thick with sharp edges and lustrous faces and only a small nick on the backside. It is transparent, a true gem; not merely murky and translucent as are most! This gorgeous gem crystal also exhibits barely perceptible pyramidal faces on each exposed corner. The piece displays well nicely on its own and the curved Cleavelandite blades along with a nearly gem Quartz crystal at its base provides dramatic accent. It has no repairs or restorations and is complete save only a small bit off of one back edge, which we have not chosen to restore because it is trivial. A superb small cabinet piece from a famous U.S. pegmatite! Ex. Bill Larson collection. Bill is of course the most famous and broadest San Diego collector, and has built the most phenomenal overall collection of San Diego gem crystals. We purchased a portion of this during 2020, and this went out for cleaning until now.
