Hematite and Quartz specimens from the Parkside Mine, Frizington, England are rather unique for the Quartz found here and I have seen these highly valued at the European shows among collectors. They seldom turn up in the USA but then, Kay had a little bit of everything stashed away for decades! The Quartz, which encloses and highlights beautiful, vivid red Hematite, has a distinctly flattened habit, easily identifiable. The luster and gemminess are both superb, which adds even more to the appearance of the Hematite, and vice versa. The bruising on the Quartz, in about six small spots, was undoubtedly unavoidable during mining. The Quartz and Hematite actually grow on the inside surface of large, classic, and choice Hematite botryoids, know as 'Kidney Ore'. There are microcrystals of sparkly, metallic Specularite to add even more interest and beauty. This is a fine and classic cabinet specimen with very good aesthetics, size, shape, color - it is a major display piece of this rare style.
