Serpierite and Gypsum
Serpieri Mine, Lavrion, Lavreotiki, Attica, Greece (TL)
Miniature, 3.8 x 3.0 x 2.8 cm
Ex. Christos Spiromitros

The Serpieri Mine, within the historic Lavrion Mining District, is the TYPE LOCALITY for the relatively uncommon hydrated calcium, copper, zinc sulfate Serpierite. In attractive cavansite-vivid-blue clusters, the Serpierite has grown on tiny grey Gypsum crystals, all overgrown upon stalactitic stalks that rise above the matrix. Although small in size, and small in crystals, the aesthetics of this combination are compelling on every level, and there is such beauty in the balance of the presentation. Collected in 2019, this miniature is unusually rich and beautiful for any Serpierite from any era, and it is even more alluring in person.
