2020/21 saw an interesting and rare find of Malachite after Cuprite pseudomorphs at the Sounion Mine #6 in Lavrion, but few choice specimens. Complex, modified, and sharp octahedral crystals of Cuprite, to 6 mm, are replaced by bright green, almost chatoyant, Malachite. The crystals are made even more vibrant by the dramatic contrast of the green against the rust-red and browns of the Goethite/iron oxide matrix. The crystal forms vary in complication here, and it is so interesting to look at and compare the variations in habit between them as you go from left to right. This is a sharp and attractive miniature from recent finds within the ancient and famous Lavrion Mining District.
