Two interconnected pyrites, at 3.7 and 3cm on edge, sit aesthetically on a balanced clay matrix from this famed Spanish locality. This is particularly fine, compared to others of the size amidst so many specimens we have seen over many years, in subtle ways of sharpness and form. When new visitors unfamiliar with minerals see these in the gallery, they always stop to marvel at the wonder of nature, producing such sharp formations and machined-looking shapes. Note that with matrix specimens of this material, almost uniformly the matrix is either stabilized, or the crystal repaired back into its natural place of origin (likely, both). From the personal collection of one of the workers and preparators at the mine, who had set back a dozen fine specimens he worked on over the years and sold us the little collection recently.
