Mexico is simply not well known for large pyrite crystals, and this is a geometric piece with intense luster and sparkle from an important but lesser known discovery here. It is a single crystal of 885 grams showing an amazing bevelled corner and patterned surfaces. It is not without damage - all these had damage from extraction, and it is contacted in the back and bottom. However, it has a good display angle and is certainly important for any Mexican suite. Avila kept a number of examples in the collection that were the best he could get for Mexico, as this was a focused collection to show the breadth and depth of Mexican finds.
