Here we have a deep red Ruby crystal on a mottled tan to off-white matrix from the Mogok Valley Zone. This vibrant, claret colored, incredibly lustrous and translucent, Ruby crystal is unusually shaped and perched adroitly on the contrasting sculptural Scapolite matrix. It is striking with its saturated ruby-red color against the ivory hued, rounded and sculptural and slightly iron stained matrix. The Ruby crystal measures 1.2 x 1.2 x 0.9 cm and exhibits a hexagonal outline from the front with a vitreous luster and then more of a rounded, wet-looking appearance from the rear. It is complemented by a small, 2 mm, pale orange Clinohumite crystal on the Scapolite on one side. Very dramatic and aesthetic! The Ruby fluoresces a bright red in long wave UV and the Scapolite fluoresces yellow for nice contrast. Ex. Violet Dawson collection (wife of White Queen Mine owner Bob Dawson, and also herself a collector of note in the mid and late 1900s), obtained from the legendary dealer Martin Ehrman (so this is an old specimen, probably brought to the USA in the 1960s or 1970s).
