A new find from China of the rare fluorite varietal, yttrofluorite, coating calcite in sparkly draperies of crystals started trickling out in early 2021. This piece features a sizeable 10.4 centimeter, doubly terminated calcite with a dusting of pale lavender yttrofluorite. The exciting feature of this piece is a secondary generation of gemmy, translucent calcite that grew over the yttrofluorite for a multigenerational, and three-dimensional, effect. The doubly terminated calcite is pristine and perched on a golden calcite matrix that displays well vertically or horizontally. A superb example of the style from this new find: it is not the most saturated color - rather it is a pastel lavender hue. But, the contrasts of color and texture make this one of the more dramatic and interesting specimens we obtained. The crystal is perfect, without damage!
