A striking, terminated smoky quartz crystal cloaked with gemmy and lustrous, cinnamon-orange spessartine garnet crystals from the good finds at the Wushan spessartine mine. The sparkling garnets are richly clustered around the quartz crystal and range in size from 2 to 5 mm and all are incredibly well formed. The color of the spessartines on this piece resemble the color of Jeffrey mine garnets rather than usual for the Wushan locality! Only the transparent termination of the pale smoky quartz crystal lacks spessartines. Complete-all-around 360 degrees, and sits handsomely on a custom acrylic base. This is from old finds, from the early 2000s, by the original mining team at this locality, lead by my friend Chen Wei Gang. The quality and color, and the wreathing association of garnets, is unique and unsurpassed since (this particular mine is now closed, although another garnet locality a few kilometers away continues to produce similar - but different - material).
