Blue Alkali Beryl
Deo Darrah, Khash & Kuran Wa Munjan Districts, Badakhshan Province, Afghanistan
Thumbnail, 2.5 x 1.9 x 1.2 cm
This cute thumbnail matrix specimen is composed of three, tabular, doubly terminated, lustrous and translucent, sky blue alkali-rich beryl crystals, to 1.9 cm across. These were originally thought to be Rosterite or Vorobyevite, but further analysis by Dr. Federico Pezzotta confirmed they are alkali-rich beryls.
