This old piece dates from the famous Ed Over era of exploration at the Red Cloud, in the 1930s and early 40s, as proved by both the intrinsic fatness and gemminess of the crystals AND the nice old labels clearly dating the specimen to the era. It was in the Seaman collection which was donated to the Smithsonian and then this piece was later traded out at some time (it does the original Smithsonian label!). These are CLASSIC crystals of the old style, with RICH red color and the best luster combined with crystal thickness ever found. There are several major crystals arranged parallel to each other at one end of the piece, but accented by lots of sparkly small crystals. The largest crystal is a whopping 1.8 cm wide and 5 mm thick. Such thickness has not been seen in Red Cloud wulfs in almost 70 years, making this not only a classic but still a unique find amongst the others there. And, of course, the mine is now not only closed but covered up and inaccessible. So, a piece like this one, like a rare old book, can ONLY go up in value. 6 x 5 x 5 cm
