While Red Cloud produced probably thousands of little gemmy crystals, some stand up more impactfully and memorably than others, and this is such a piece, traced through multiple collections for a reason. It is a simple, dramatic, 2001-Space-Odyssey version of a wulfenite! Tall and dramatic, it fixates the eye on it because it is a little more tall and a little more colorful than you expect. It is a highly lustrous, translucent to transparent red-orange single crystal. It was long in the important collection of Robbie and Bill McCarty, well known collectors of Southwestern USA minerals. Also, includes a label for the 2016 “Wulfenite: Proposed Arizona State Mineral” showcase, shown at the TGMS Show. Many Red Cloud thumbnails exist, certainly, but this is special and was in the important wulfenite suite of the Schauss collection, based in Tucson, for a reason. Easier to convey in person!
