Rhodochrosite, Manganite
N'Chwaning I Mine, N'Chwaning Mines, Kuruman, Kalahari manganese fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa
Small Cabinet, 6.0 x 3.5 x 2.5 cm
These "barrels of wheatsheaves" are an extremely rare and valuable habit of rhodochrosite from this mine, known from just one infamous pocket of the late 1970's and then never seen again. This one is superb because it has good clusters in some isolation on the contrasting matrix, as opposed to being a solid matte. The luster and sparkle on this piece, and all from the pocket, is phenomenal! 6 x 3.5 x 2.5 cm
