Tourmaline in Quartz
Himalaya Mine, Mesa Grande Mining Dist., San Diego Co., California, USA
Small Cabinet, 5.8 x 4.3 x 2.0 cm
Ex. Bob Bartsch; Rock Currier
SOLD

Here is a very colorful and aesthetic Tourmaline-Quartz combination piece from the Himalaya Mine pegmatite in California, unusual in its perch within a quartz crystal. GEM crystals from the Himalaya are rare enough, and in matrix all the more so. A two inch beautiful, horizontally zoned Elbaite Tourmaline crystal is the centerpiece for this small cabinet piece and it is balanced by partial Quartz crystals on each side that each have an impression (cast) of a Tourmaline crystal complete with the striations! The Tourmaline is horizontally zoned starting with a lower, 1 cm, cloudy, pink and green, horizontally fractured zone that transitions into a 2 cm gemmy green zone with a few sub-horizontal fractures and then a 1.1 cm, beautiful, almost totally gem, pastel pink area topped by a 1.5 cm, gem green termination! There is even a 1.3 cm, silver-lavender Lepidolite crystal at the bottom of the piece off to the left side. A lovely, well-composed Himalaya piece collected in 1983! Ex. Bob Bartsch and Rock Currier. Bob collected the specimen on August 20, 1983. Rock got the specimen when Bob died and he left Rock his collection in his living trust. http://www.mindat.org/article.php/2158/Robert+Bartsch+++RIP++1939+to+2014.
