The Wenshan Mine in China has produced some amazing Calcite specimens and this flower-like cluster is no exception. It is a gorgeous, divergent cluster of brilliant, colorless and limpid Calcite crystals from a less than a centimeter up to 3 cm in length. The group is relatively tight, yet the crystals are relatively stout and totally gem so it reflects any incident light and illuminates the piece! All of the prism faces of the individual crystals are super lustrous and the crystals around the periphery of the piece have pyramidal terminations that exhibit a vitreous luster, while those in the central portion have terminal faces that are slightly to moderately etched and the large crystal at the center-top looks to be slightly hollowed out or even hoppered! Very attractive and unusual! This mine generally produces Calcite specimens of larger size so exquisite miniatures like this are very uncommon.
