Batopilas produced sharp, elegant, very distinctive wire silvers in at least 3 major finds: early 1900s, the 1960s (most in 1968), and again in the 1980s. Each has a different style and this has a style associated with the middle and most classic of the finds there. This has robust "wires" that are actually very elongated spinel twinned crystals, with sharp and pointed terminations. It is not a wire silver at all, although sometimes people refer to them that way because of the thin crystals. This specimen has robust crystals, perched dramatically in a small amount of calcite matrix. Also, unlike many, it has not been over-cleaned with strong acids to make it bright and shiny looking. It is elegant and balanced.
