Cornetite and Malachite

Cornetite, a rare copper phosphate mineral, was actually the first new mineral discovered in Congo (as we just learned in a google search that pulled up MINDAT.org). This is a beautiful, shimmering specimen rich with cornetite in small sparkling crystals like sugar, mixed with malachite. There is nothing like it - they shimmer in the sunlight or in LED lighting, in a way that few minerals do, and put other "sparkly" minerals to shame in doing so. This is a particular style and color that came out in the late 1990s and was brought to market by the great Belgian dealer Gilbert Gauthier. Seldom seen, today.
