This specimen is part of a small collection of curated cavansite specimens accumulated by a friend in India over the last 20 years; all with the best hot blue color. It features a superb cluster of deepest, royal blue, cavansite with the best metallic/iridescent luster, perched on a matrix of tiny, scintillating stilbite. The cluster is big, nearly 4 cm across. Upon closer examination, the cavansite and the stilbite have accents of sparkling, gemmy calcite crystals. Cavansite was originally discovered 1967 in Oregon and named for its chemical composition (CA-lcium, VAN-adium, SI-lica-TE). Cavansite is a relatively rare mineral that has since been recovered in fairly large volumes from India, which have provided, by far, the finest specimens of the species. This specimen has been professionally trimmed for the best possible display, and features a large cluster of cavansite that is rare to find these days.
