Dioptase in pocket
Kaokoveld Plateau, Kunene Region, Namibia
Cabinet, 12.6 x 8.5 x 8.4 cm
SOLD

A unique and dramatic Kaokoveld Dioptase "geode," or pocket, consisting of beautiful dioptase crystals in the protected pocket in which they formed in tight cracks within the rocks. The interior is completely lined with dark, emerald green, brilliantly lustrous Dioptase crystals from 3 mm to 1.3 cm in size. The crystals are gemmy to translucent and just sparkle with any incident light. The exterior of the piece is very striking and mottled with a mix of sky-blue Chrysocolla, dark green Dioptase and grayish-white clay resulting in fantastic contrast. Chrysocolla dominates much of the exterior as thick, colorful, irregularly shaped patches transected by thin to thick veinlets of dark green Dioptase and the clay fills in low areas on the rough surface. An unusual and eye-catching piece. This is probably from finds of the early 2000s to 2010 range. It is, in shape and sparkle, very impactful on a shelf.
