Calcite on petrified wood with Quartz
Circle Cliffs, Garfield Co, Utah, USA
Small Cabinet, 6.3 x 3.7 x 2.7 cm
SOLD

A single, mint green Calcite crystal juts out from the brown contrasting matrix on this unusual specimen from the Circle Cliffs in Utah. These "kiwi" Calcites, as they are known, are characteristic from this area and this particular crystal measures 2 cm in length and 1.2 cm in width. It is strategically placed to show itself off on the brown petrified wood matrix that has a coating of glistening, microcrystalline quartz druse. A few other tiny green Calcite crystals are present in the vicinity of the large one. This would also trim to a more balanced miniature or thumbnail, and is one of the finest single isolated crystals from this now infamous find. So far as we are aware, the collectors who found this little pocket have sold it all and as I recall sold it all immediately at the first showing. Unusual material! While not the richest example in quantity, this piece was starkly unique in the find for the style and aesthetics.
