Very attractive, old-time Amethyst and Calcite specimen from the Valenciana mine in Guanajuato. Although Guanajuato's considerable reputation is partly built on its Amethyst, we have to begin with that killer modified Calcite rhomb. As you can see, the habit is striking and the pearly luster excellent. The Calcite, 2 cm wide corner to corner, even has an intense orange fluorescence. It is perched beautifully on a plate of gemmy Amethyst crystals that have good to frosted luster and deep purple phantoms. Many the crystals have an attractive, preferential coating of iron oxides, which is always a cool mineralogical touch. It's hard to deny just how well-balanced and aesthetic this specimen is.
