Cuprite
Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Sonora, Mexico
Miniature, 4.5 x 3.0 x 2.3 cm
SOLD
A choice miniature by any worldwide standard, this spectacular specimen with isolated crystals to 1.5 cm perched on contrasting matrix Is unique in the lot and is one of the finest pieces in the pocket, in my opinion. The crystals are complete, save only a few minor contacts on the edges to the sides. We have never seen cuprite like this form the mine, or from any other North or South American locality in this quality of color and luster. Only Australian cuprites from a now-closed off mine can compare, and a few individual specimens from other localities over time. This piece, and this pocket as a whole, really sets a new standard for what can come out of the Sonoran copper belt. Comes with a custom made lucite base.
