CUP16-01
Cuprite
Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Sonora, Mexico
Small Cabinet, 7.5 x 6.8 x 3.2 cm
SOLD

This specimen shows off a three-dimensional ridge of crystals to 1 cm, running along the top of the piece and highlighting a glistening plate of RED and metallic cuprite, on cuprite ore matrix. It is simply stunning in person, because the light on it in a case really highlights both parts of the piece and creates a contrast of texture within the overall cherry red burst of color. This piece, and this pocket as a whole, really sets a new standard for what can come out of the Sonoran copper belt. Comes with a custom made lucite base. It is perhaps my favorite small cabinet sized specimen of the lot. It is certainly competitive with any previous worldwide cuprite of such size and luster (only Australian can compete), and blows away previous finds from Milpillas which sold for this price and more, in the past.
