Calcite on Sphalerite
Cabinet, 11.6 x 6.9 x 4.4 cm
Rosiclare Level, Butterknife Pod, Denton Mine, Harris Creek District, Illinois, USA

Mined in April 1987, this specimen is composed of many glassy and gemmy light amber colored calcite crystals, to 2.4 cm in length, all perched on a sliver of sphalerite. Ross Lillie notes on his label that the crystal habit (elongated rhombohedra showing extended faces and slight curvature) was a rare form from this one unique pocket. RCL 782
