Datolite and Danburite With Quartz
Bor Mine, Dal'negorsk, Primorskiy Kraj, Siberia, Russia

This is a wonderful and UNIQUE Russian combo specimen that features a large, glassy and translucent, pastel blue-green datolite crystal measuring 8 cm across that partially grew around a glassy and gemmy, smoky-colored danburite crystal measuring 4.7 cm in length. Danburite is quite rare, here, and this unusual intergrowth all the more so. I have never seen a combo like this! It is from a small pocket of late 2011 or early 2012, and this was the best piece I saw in the lot. For added significance there are several milky quartz crystals, to 2.3 cm in length, that are at the base of the specimen along with a few paper thin calcite crystals. A very showy and interesting specimen!
