Wulfenite
Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia
Miniature, 5.0 x 4.0 x 3.5 cm
SOLD
This is an absolute killer, to my mind the best wulfenite in the collection. It is a large miniature with unbelieveably lustrous and glassy crystals, to 3 cm, perched atop matrix. The crystal is "silky" in appearance, with a natural wet look to it. It is pristine and undamaged. MOREOEVER, it has a 45-degree-offset phantom of "chillagite" within. Chillagite is a discredited varietal name for wulfenite that has oriented inclusions of molybdenum, giving a blue color. In this case, the phantom boundary is indeed slightly blue, and most dramatic! It is a MAJOR specimen not just for the locality, but for the species. From the Nauke Oechslin Collection, purchased in Africa in the early 2000: a noted collection mentioned in Gebhard's Tsumeb books. 5 x 4 x 3.5 cm
