Wenshan Mine, Dulong ore field, Wenshan Co., Wenshan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China
Cabinet, 9.7 x 5.4 x 2.1 cm
Wenshan is known for its colorful blue hemimorphites, and in fact they have always been prized since they have never come out in volume. But just look at this specimen - just incredible in terms of both the color and the luster! I have simply never seen hemimorphite from here or ANYWHERE with color like this - and the surface is a wonderfully shiny field (the luster is much better in person, really SHINY) of botryoidal forms. It is even slightly translucent, reminiscent of the apple-colored smithsonite from the 79 Mine in Hayden in many ways other than color.
