Beryl (Var: Aquamarine)
Shigar Valley, Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan
Miniature, 5.0 x 3.7 x 1.5 cm
A striking as this specimen looks in the pics, it is far more striking in person. That's because the aquamarine crystal has a gemmy clarity that absolutely cannot be exceeded; it is absolutely clear as glass. There is a tiny conchoidal ding on the termination, but you have to really look for it to see it with the naked eye. The termination is otherwise so flat and perfect, and the crystal so clear, that you can see all the way through 5 cm of the crystal as if looking through water. And, the position of the crystal on the carefully-trimmed matrix could not be more dramatic! The crystal actually extends down into the matrix, all the way to the bottom of the matrix. 5 x 3.7 x 1.5 cm
