Assorted New Finds & Acquisitions

Veszelyite: We love this gorgeous copper species, which has in the past been so rare in this world that few could own a good example. Great specimens came out of Montana's Black Pine Mine, more than 50 years ago, and continue to be sought after by collectors. However, in recent years, superb and colorful examples of this mineral species have come from both the Congo (the last several years) and from China, over multiple discoveries since around 2012. First found in crusts and botryoidal plates in Yunnan's Malipo region, amazing new discoveries with sharp crystals have been found in a large copper district elsewhere in Yunnan Province . Initially priced cheaply in China, and like gold by certain foreign dealers, the quantities found have now overwhelmed the market for this species as a high priced rarity and suffered from a "price crash" in China as they must drop in value to appeal to a more general and less rarified market, as it actually becomes a more common species. While other foreign dealers claim to go to southern China and buy directly, we actually do so....and are now proud to offer fine examples of Veszelyite at very favorable prices to our customers. While the majority of these specimens were recently mined, the site has now been working for over 6 years. A few pieces in the update (numbers 14-15 from another location) date back 10-12 years to older discoveries.
Shattuckite: From a 2012-2013 discovery, this is some of the finest shattuckite ever found in any locality. We purchased a number of kilos of "carving rough" at the time, to explore the potential of this unique material as a lapidary product for the jewelry and collector market. We cut many pieces with great results, producing a beautiful line of polished cabochons and slabs, some of which we held back for the future and present here. They sold at gem shows and within the gem trade as jewelry material at prices per gram. We were also able to retain many as natural specimens, cutting and polishing only damaged or massive examples. Now long off the market, we are happy to present our promotion samples of the material from that time, for sale online. Note that these were confirmed with x-ray analysis to be shattuckite, although numerous specimens sold in 2012-2013 actually were mislabeled as plancheite. The lapidary slabs here have been cut and polished in accordance with normal protocols for cutting copper rich ore rough, in which they are infiltrated by epoxy to bond and stabilize them, and yet the polish is entirely natural in these high quality examples.
Wavellite: A surprise lot of extremely pretty wavellite specimens from Mauldin Mountain, a classic locality in Arkansas many consider ranks for best of species material. It has produced intermittently for 100 years, but nothing this good has come in decades! It is simply one of the finest examples of quality for color saturation and sparkly glistening surfaces, from this small pocket of early 2024. We simply purchased the entire small pocket (which was about the size of a basketball), and present it to you here.
Quartz with Hematite: This rich quartz locality in India's Tamil Nadu state has produced many different styles of quartz over the years, but in recent years has yielded up both amethyst and iron stained red quartz. Here, we have a choice pocket of sharp crystals containing (iron) hematite as both inclusions and small micro-crystals atop a previous generation of phantom quartz. The effects are striking! The sharp contrasts of zoning and color make for affordable and stunning collector-sized specimens of something rather different and new in style, for quartz.
