Azurite
Idaho, USA
Miniature, 5.7 x 5.3 x 4.8 cm
Ex. Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences; William Vaux
SOLD
A surprising old piece from the collection of William S. Vaux (1811-1882) ....This shockingly well-preserved rosette of azurite is composed of many intergrown crystals, to 1.0 cm across. The specimen appears to be a floater, with moderate luster and a rich, bluish-purple color. Good azurites from Idaho, like this one, are exceedingly rare. I personally have never seen one and would like, if anybody knows it, to know which historic locality produced azurites so good from this state?! Ex. Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences Collection, a bequest from one of its founding families.
