An exquisite and rare, possibly unique, combo specimen from the Blue Chihuahua Mine pegmatite in Riverside County, California. From the SoCal suite of the Currier Collection: and we paid up just to have such a special specimen when this was released due not only to its significance for the county but its significance overall as a sharp Herderite from ANY USA locale. Few good minerals came out of here, mostly in the mid 1900s. This was collected in 1967 by Bob Bartsch, Rock's friend and collecting buddy (Rock got this specimen when Bartsch passed away). This great miniature features a large, single, well-formed and intricate Herderite crystal accompanied by a little gem of a Topaz crystal. Overall the Herderite is an attractive, translucent pale grayish with creamy white highlights on select edges. The creamy colored highlights are due to additional Herderite growth/overgrowth on select edges with this overgrowth being up to 3 or 4 mm thick on one face and raised 1 to 1.5 mm above the main crystal face... very unusual! For accent, there is a 1.9 cm, colorless, totally gem Topaz crystal set perfectly at the top edge with the top end of the crystal nicely terminated! This is a large and very good Herderite complemented well with a gem Topaz crystal from the Blue Chihuahua!
