Stunning luster and good crystal size for the species makes this already a fine bixbyite example but yet more than that, it is a rare combination with topaz, with the sharp textbook crystal being penetrated by a Topaz crystal! The big Bixbyite measures 2 cm on edge and displays excellent black metallic luster along with complex modifications on the corners and is perched high on the matrix. The 2 cm light sherry colored, terminated Topaz crystal growing across and through the Bixbyite adds additional interest and aesthetics to the piece. Both crystals are set in a light colored rhyolite rock matrix. It is a wonderful and unusual combination small cabinet piece for the locality. Obtained in 2004 from the personal collection of claim owner John Holfert, who collected it (late 1990s find, by the style). These are spectacular crystals from an older find, no longer on the market.
