LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! What works in retail, holds true for minerals as well. This amazing specimen of fluorite with bright sparkly chalcopyrite atop, looks at first like it is from China, but in fact is an older specimen from Mexico. It is presumably from the 1980s, and was in the Kurt Hefendehl collection until recently. Gem modified fluorites to 3 cm play host for the chalcopyrite crystals. Chinese-style fluorite would generally be more cubic and associated with less sharp chalcopyrite… although we also have Kurt's catalog to say he got it and it had a Mexican label from decades ago.
