Unique among other Chinese purple fluorites.... Very attractive transparent, purple modified octahedral fluorite cluster from an unusual Chinese locality. Gemmy, lustrous fluorite crystals are dominated by the octahedron with dodecahedral modifications and display a darker purple core with the remainder a lighter gemmy purple. The purple fluorite crystals are associated with an earlier generation of pale green fluorite and a few small quartz crystals for contrast. The glassy crystals are gemmy and transparent enough to reveal the matrix minerals through them! An edge of the largest crystal measures 3.5 cm across. These are some of the most lustrous purple fluorites we have yet seen from China. Only a few came out, and to my knowledge this was one of only 5 or 6 good pieces of this style, although the mine has produced other pockets before and since. Contacted on the bottom and one side which reveals the disseminated pyrite-bearing matrix, quartz and calcite. A custom engraved acrylic base is provided to display this captivating piece. In person, much more gemmy and 3-dimensional - it is a very special fluorite specimen.
