This is a fascinating cluster of amethyst from Guerrero, Mexico: the classic location for big, gemmy, and generally simple amethyst points. But, this one has multiple generations of growth, multiple colors, coating the larger crystals! There is a traditional lustrous and translucent light purple amethyst crystal measuring 7 cm in length. A sparkling and later generation of white chalcedony totally covers another quartz crystal at the base of the amethyst. Tertiary, third generation growth of what is probably hematite-included quartz, has then covered some other crystals with a sparkling brownish druse, like sugar. The piece is simply gorgeous in light - a study in color contrasts that make the shapes and geometry more dramatic. We have never seen the like from this location.
