Dr. Miguel Romero was one of the greatest old style of gentleman collectors of Mineral Collecting in the time I came up in the 1980s-1990s and even before. He was a passionate mineral collector with a private museum in Mexico, loans to Houston and Tucson museums; all while also a working businessman and a senator in the Mexican government. He had an exquisite eye and taste, and access to the best of Mexico as it was coming out in the late 1900s. He loaned a display suite of Mexican classics to the Houston Museum in 1996, including the amethyst you see here — as you can see from the accession tag included with this specimen. It is a very fine specimen with glass luster, gemminess, and a blingy sparkle to it that most of these simply do not have. It is also obviously from older production, which to my eye is still better than most modern material from the locality. The aesthetics of the piece are notable because of the stark V shape atop, with crystals to about 3 cm.
